Starr's Cookie Wash Debut Marred by Students' Suspension

Dancehall artiste and owner of Popular Female Hygiene Company “Sweet Cookie Wash” , Starr Dawkins, recently hosted her “Kickout Odor” Cookie Wash Ja Launch Party & Pop Up. She announced on Instagram that the event was being held at Di Lot between September 27-29 and there, she would give away sanitary napkins, tampons, and provide food and entertainment to teenage school girls.

In an Instagram post made to her “@realstarrgyal” account, she posted a video of a truck she repurposed into her store as she said Kingston rent was too expensive. Her posts caught the attention of many on social media, as she had influencers such as TC, Rebel, and Shanzi endorse the event on their respective platforms and graced the pop-up launch with their presence.

Live performances and appearances by dancehall artists Jahshii and Kemar Highcon brought the vibes to those in attendance. The giveaway aspect was enjoyed from 2:00 pm -6:00 pm mainly by students from a prominent high school in Kingston who were out in their numbers enjoying karaoke games and music.

Despite the positive message and intentions Starr had in an effort to give back, this was dampened by controversy caused by a popular all-girls school in Kingston which most of the teenage girls attended. In an apology video she posted on Instagram in October she said girls were being suspended for being on video enjoying themselves in their uniforms, despite not doing “anything wrong “. The artiste stated that if she gets the chance, she would love to make it up to the girls by hosting a giveaway on the school compound and she apologizes for the inconvenience and hopes this creates a relationship between her and the school.
